1st ISCMP Workshop

Hosted by the Centre de Restauració de Béns Mobles de Catalunya (CRBMC)

The 1st International Workshop of the International Scientific Committee on Mural Painting (ISCMP) will take place from October 29–31, 2025, in Barcelona, Spain, generously hosted by the Centre de Restauració de Béns Mobles de Catalunya (CRBMC).

This landmark event will bring together ISCMP members from across the globe for three days of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and strategic development in the field of mural painting conservation. The workshop will feature:

  • Working sessions led by ISCMP Working Groups focused on topics such as conservation principles, methodologies, street art, documentation practices, and more
  • Optional Extras, including a site visit to the Villa Romana dels Munts and a guided tour of the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC), led by its conservation staff
  • A Gala Dinner to celebrate our shared commitment to mural conservation at MNAC
  • The ISCMP Award Ceremony, honoring excellence and innovation in mural conservation

The event will also provide valuable networking opportunities, simultaneous translation in English and Spanish, and both in-person and live-stream registration options to accommodate ISCMP Members worldwide. Workshop Venue

The Centre de Restauració de Béns Mobles de Catalunya (CRBMC) is Catalonia’s premier institution for the conservation and restoration of movable cultural heritage, including archaeological objects, mural paintings, sculptures, panel and textile paintings. Established in May 2003, the CRBMC is equipped with advanced labs offering X‑ray imaging, infrared reflectography, chromatography, optical microscopy, anoxia chambers, and more — all tailored to support high‑level conservation projects. The Centre not only carries out restoration work but also publishes technical reports, hosts training courses, and provides advisory services to professionals and institutions.

Location: Valldoreix, Sant Cugat del Vallès – approximately 15 km northwest of Barcelona.

Transportation

You will be provided public transport passes on the first day to use to get to and from CRBMC and around Barcelona!

By Train (Recommended):
The fastest and most convenient way is by FGC commuter train from Plaça Catalunya:

  • Take lines S1, S2, S5, or S55 toward Sabadell or Terrassa and get off at Valldoreix station (journey time: 25–30 minutes).
    • Trains run every 5–10 minutes.
  • From Valldoreix station, it’s approximately a 10-minute walk to CRBMC.

By Taxi or Rideshare:

  • Travel time: 20–30 minutes from central Barcelona (depending on traffic).
  • Estimated cost: €30–40 one way.

By Car:

  • Accessible via the AP-7, AP-2, or C-16 (Vallvidrera tunnels) highways.

Lodging

The CRBMC is located in a residential area just outside Barcelona. You can find a list of hotels in Barcelona here, which have been selected for their proximity to train and metro stations with direct links to the CRBMC.  Public transport passes will be provided by the CRBMC for each participant, valid for three days. 

However, for those who want to be in walking distance of the venue, we’ve also attached a separate list of hotels closer to The CRBMC.

ISCMP Members register on EventBrite! The password for registration was sent to ISCMP members’ email.

Full Registration

The in-person registration includes access to all workshop sessions, English–Spanish interpretation, daily catered lunch with coffee breaks, a public transport pass, the ISCMP Award Ceremony, and a guided MNAC tour, plus an event badge, welcome kit, and optional certificate of attendance. 

Online-only Registration

Includes live streaming access to workshop sessions.

Visa Support

If you require a visa to attend the workshop in Spain, we are happy to assist you. Upon confirmation of registration and payment, we can provide an official invitation letter to support your visa application. Please make sure to indicate this need during the registration process and allow sufficient time for the visa procedure.
