Welcome to the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Mural Painting

The ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Mural Painting researches and promotes the understanding, protection, conservation and management of mural painting and their value and significance. Mural painting is defined by the Committee as:

Immovable and integral painting executed on natural or man-made architectural support or architectural elements.

The aims of the Committee are to:

  1. Promote international and interdisciplinary co-operation in mural painting conservation;
  2. Gather, study and disseminate knowledge and information in mural painting conservation;
  3. Promote cooperative work with the other scientific committees of ICOMOS;
  4. Promote the consideration of community values and significance of mural painting in their conservation.
